General Introduction
The department was established in 1952 and was formerly known as the Department of Pelvic Oncology h. Our clinical and research team is a leader in advancing such health concerns as gynecologic oncology (including cancers of the ovary, endometrium, cervix, vulva and vagina) in Tianjin. We provide a wide range of gynecologic services, from routine health screenings to surgical reconstruction.
Our department has more than 20 surgeons and 94 beds. Each year we care for more than 5000 women and perform nearly 1600 surgical operations at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital.
Clinical Service
Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital is one of the few medical centers in China with the expertise to perform surgery for recurrent gynecological cancers. Our department in Tianjin takes the lead in carrying out the operation for early-stage cervical cancer while conserving fertility function. Our surgeons are experts in all approaches to gynecological oncologic surgery — from minimally invasive procedures（such as the laparoscopic or robotic approach）that can lessen pain, reduce the length of hospital stays and shorten recovery time, to more complex open surgery. The medical practices include surgery, intravenous injections and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
The experts of the Department of Gynecologic Oncology work in multi-disciplinary teams to develop an individualized treatment plan for each person after making a thorough evaluation using the latest diagnostic technology.
Research
The department promotes innovation in all phases of gynecologic oncology research by a powerful collaboration between laboratory scientists and clinicians,. Our clinicians function as PIs and conduct an average of 8 clinical trials annually.

Team leader
Professor Dr. Ke Wang is currently the director of the Gynecological Oncology Department. Dr. Wang has obtained his MD and MSc. in medicine at Tianjin Medical University.
Dr. Wang is an executive board member of the Gynecologic Oncology Committee of the Chinese Anti-cancer Association; the expert on the multi-disciplinary team for Gynecologic Oncology. He has specialized in all approaches to gynecology oncologic treatments for severe cases.
