Academician of Vladimir Semigrazov of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Professor Petr Krivoroko, head of the breast surgery department and experts from Tianjin breast cancer prevention and research center of China, gave lectures and training using internet video. In addition, experts in relevant fields from Qinghai Cancer Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, Zhejiang People's Hospital and Gansu Cancer Hospital held case discussions on surgery, internal medicine, imaging, pathology, nursing and other disciplines to provide clinical guidance for nearly 300 doctors across China.

The overall breast reconstruction rate in the country as a whole is only about 10% which is due to the limited conditions in many areas. This makes it difficult for patients to obtain the chance of breast reconstruction in their local area. Tianjin is one of the first cities in China to carry out breast reconstruction procedures. In recent years, at more than 50%, the proportion of breast reconstruction in the department of Breast Oncoplastic Surgery of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital has reached international levels. Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital holds national breast reconstruction classes every year.

The first “The belt and road” Public Welfare Project on Breast Reconstruction was launched and the Sino-Russian Joint Research Center for Oncoplastic Breast Surgery was established in 2019 to promote the development of breast reconstruction surgery theory and technology.

This year, to consolidate existing support achievements, the expert team will add Zhejiang People's Hospital and Gansu Cancer Hospital as designated units of the public welfare bank to give breast reconstruction technical guidance, operation specification teaching, medical professional training and patient education. They will strive to solve the problem of limited availability of breast reconstruction technology in areas with unequal medical resources, and finally achieve the goal of a complete breast reconstruction surgery service in these areas. Finally, the overall improvement of the diagnosis and treatment level of breast cancer in this region will be realized, so that breast cancer patients can truly benefit and share the development achievements of breast reconstruction in China.
