The Video Conference for the Signing Ceremony of the Research Cooperation Agreement between Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital and CREATE Health Cancer Center, Lund University, Sweden

TMUCIH held an online academic exchange with the CREATE Health Cancer Center, Lund University on April 20 and signed the renewal of the scientific research cooperation agreement during a video conference. Against the background of the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, our hospital has taken innovative steps to extend the project cooperation with our friendly foreign colleges and universities through on-line communication, video conference and other methods, to establish the bridge of "on-lineacademic exchange" enabling close exchanges and interactions between the two sides and promoting development of high quality academic exchange and cooperation.

This video conference was attended by Prof. Jihui Hao, President of TMUCIH, Prof. Kexin Chen, Vice President of TMUCIH, Prof. Hui Li, Director, Dept. of Science and Education, Lijun Zhang, Shasha Liu, Director of the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, Prof.Jin Zhang, Director of the Dept. of Breast Cancer III, Dr. Yaomei Ma, Dept. of Gynecological Cancer, and Dr. Song Gao, Dept. of Pancreatic Cancer. At the video conference, Prof.Jihui Hao, President of TMUCIH and Prof. Carl Borrebaeck, Director of CREATE Health Cancer Center, Lund University, both delivered speeches and jointly reviewed the friendly cooperation and scientific research achievements over the past ten years. The two sides further exchanged views on the new round of scientific research cooperation agreements which aim to promote substantial cooperation in scientific research and education.

Lund University has a long history of strong scientific research which is integrated with higher education, and enjoys a high international reputation in these areas. In November 2012, our institute signed a scientific cooperation agreement in Tianjin with Lund University, Sweden to facilitate cooperation in the development of new biomarkers for the early diagnosis and prevention of pancreatic, breast and ovarian cancer. This specifically focused on the validation of ongoing early diagnosis and clinical studies. The value of this cooperative project has also been recognised by the Skåne regional government of Sweden and the Tianjin Science and Technology Commission. Both sides hope to establish long-term friendly and cooperative relations in medical research through this project.

Both institutions signing the Project Agreement in November, 2012

Since signing the Project Agreement, the collaborative project has progressed to the substantive stage. The team from Lund University has sent researchers to work with the Pancreatic Department of our hospital on shared research into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, and jointly completed specific data analysis. The joint article had been published in Science Direct, establishing a permanent record of the cooperation results. In recent years, the Department of Gynecological Cancer of our hospital has cooperated with the Swedish side on the project to validate the prognostic biomarker SOX11 in ovarian cancer. The two sides hope to generate new research results as a result of further cooperation.

During the video conference, the TMUCIH experts from Departments of Pancreatic Cancer, Breast Cancer and Gynecological Cancer reported on their research projects, and Prof. Mats Jerkeman, Head of office at the Medical oncology, Cancer Center of Lund University and Prof. Sara Ek, from the Cancer Center of Lund University also joined the discussion on some specific cooperation issues.

We hope, the renewal of the research agreement will continue to consolidate the achievements of cooperation, further integrate and optimize the strengths and resources from both sides to facilitate substantive cooperation in the fields of talent training, scientific research and joint application for international cooperative project funds so as to continue to promote more comprehensive and stable scientific research cooperation.
